Seasonal/Competition Programs

The Adaptive Sports Foundation’s seasonal and competition programs are open to advanced skiers or riders who are interested in developing their race skills and are seeking a group training atmosphere.

Competition Racing Program

The Adaptive Sports Foundation’s Competition Racing Program provides coaching, mentoring, technique development, and tactics training for athletes with physical disabilities (Paralympic eligible) and intellectual disabilities (Special Olympics). Through hard work and guided coaching, the ASF Race Team athletes earn the opportunity to participate in local, regional and national competitions.

Adaptive Sports Foundation athletes are all ages and represent a diverse cross section of the disabled population. ASF team members live with disabilities ranging from relatively mild learning disabilities to more severe disabilities such a paralysis, autism, amputation, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury. The Foundation’s work promotes physical activity by offering winter competition programs for recreational ski and snowboarding training to high level competition.

Programs are supplemented and provide video analysis, instruction in nutrition, yoga and fitness training. Athletes from the Adaptive Sports Foundation Competition Program have gone on to represent the United States in international competition as members of the U.S. Paralympic Alpine National Team and the Paralympic Games.

Recreational Racing Program

The Adaptive Sports Foundation Recreational Race Team provides seasonal weekend racing programs for skiers and snowboarders whose aspirations are more recreational and social in nature. The ASF provides the weekend race team members with coaching with the goal of developing sound fundamental skiing and riding skills. The team is made up of adaptive athletes of all ages, with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities,

Weekend Race Team athletes will be given the tools to reach their desired level of skiing/riding and racing in a fun social environment. Nutrition, fitness training will be introduced and encouraged. These athletes will have the opportunity compete in, Special Olympics, in house and Diana Golden races, (not required).

Sliders

The Adaptive Sports Foundation Sliders is a weekend program whose skiers and riders enjoy getting outdoors with their peers and exploring the mountain in a social environment. Sliders learn how physical activity, good nutritional habits, and a positive outlook impacts their health through a coordinated student-first coaching philosophy shared by our instructors.

Our goal is to provide the Sliders with long term fundamental life changes in their skiing and riding. ASF Sliders are all ages, with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities. Most important is that sliders have a fun and a social experience with their friends.
