ASF EMERGING ATHLETES

John Eckbold

John Eckbold was born on March 15, 1989 with spina bifida, a congenital spinal cord disability. He was born prematurely, weighing only two pounds and three ounces. Within hours of his birth he had surgery to repair his spine and place a shunt in his head. Over the next 21 years John had 32 surgeries. However, he has not let his health stand in his way.

John uses a mono-ski (which is a sit-ski with one ski) along with two outriggers to ski the slopes. John trained and raced with ASF’s race team for the last two winter seasons and will do so again this winter.

John would like to attend more training camps in the future and move up to competing in Level 2 races.
