Sports Conditioning and Wellness (May 21-23, 2013)

This course is designed to provide all participants with a general understanding of physical health and resistance training through a variety of techniques and applications. Participants will gain knowledge of resistance training programs which they can apply in their own lives. Specific emphasis will focus on strength and cardio training principles, safety procedures, equipment, and individualized programming.
Nutrition (June 11-13, 2013)
Windham, NY
Participants will explore the anatomical and mechanical concepts requisite to assessment, description, and analysis of human exercise and sport. They will then look at the interrelationship between nutritional practices and human physical performance. Topics covered include the role of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water on performance. In addition, factors affecting body composition and weight control are covered.
Psychological Basis of Outdoor Activity (August 20-22, 2013)
Windham, NY
To provide an understanding of the relationship between outdoor physical activity and sport and the psychological factors involved in teaching individuals with disabilities. Participants explore the relation of stress and motivation to mental/physical health and performance, as well as special topics related to combat stress. The group will look at the concept of stress and examine stress reduction and motivation techniques that may be used to help fellow warriors dealing with stress issues. This course is a practical application course that provides education through experiences in a variety of seasonal recreation activities.
The Adaptive Sports Foundation is a National Program Provider for Wounded Warrior Project ®. Warriors in Motion is an Adaptive Sports Foundation program that provides participating Wounded Warriors with a basic knowledge and practice of fitness and holistic wellness. All events embrace the four pillars of sports/recreation, fitness/exercise, nutrition, and wellness that are fundamental to all Wounded Warrior Project ® programs by teaching the importance of practicing lifelong healthful living.
