Participant Stories

The Adaptive Sports Foundation has changed our son’s life forever! The program has given him a tremendous sense of independence, significant boost to his self esteem, and a positive ‘can do’ attitude in all activities/sports he gets involved in regardless of the level of difficulty. In just a few years, the program was able to get our son from a ‘tethered, harnessed, and trombone-equipped’ skier with dual instructor support to a ‘non equipped’ single instructor skier. This was a great feat given the right hemiparesis and limited use of both his right hand and right leg. This could not have been done without the significant support of the Adaptive Sports Foundation as well as the ‘amazing and supportive’ volunteer instructors. Each and every instructor worked to build our son’s confidence and esteem while working on improving his balance, coordination, and compensatory techniques. The careful note-taking and tracking by each instructor creates continuity and a base on which to build upon. This has helped create his success. Not only is skiing his ‘sport forever,’ but it has given our family a sport we can all do together as well as a sport he can participate in with all of his friends.

I wanted to express my appreciation to you, The Center, Shirley and Marty. On February 27th, I was lucky enough to attend a lesson at the Adaptive Center. My wife Pattie and I are most grateful to you and the staff for all the help, kindness and instruction. The center is awesome! I could never have imagined I would be able to ski like I used to before my accident. Both Shirley and Marty were great. My wife now can’t wait till we can go skiing with our two young sons, as a family. It’s because of you all and the fantastic program that you have made of all of this possible.
