Lisbeth Firmin

Lisbeth is a contemporary American realist whose imagery explores the relationship between people and their environment. She has absorbed and sought to extend the themes of earlier realists such as John Sloan and Edward Hopper; depicting modern life while exploring timeless themes of solitude and isolation. She is not interested in producing a literal translation of her environment but instead seeks a balance between the subject and the pictorial structure that holds it together, boldly riding the line between abstraction and realism. She concentrates on translating her visceral reaction to her subject matter into the work, in hopes of setting up a corresponding emotional response in the viewer.
