Imagine speeding out of the starting gate, edging around the left, then the right gate, the wind blowing through your hair, you’re closing in on the finish line, dropping into a tuck, and when you are all done, realizing you have beaten your record time. Now, imagine doing all this while being legally blind and partially hearing impaired. I’m twenty-year-old Caitlin Sarubbi, and because of the Adaptive Sports Foundation, this fantasy for most people became a reality for me.
With the help of the Adaptive Sports Foundation, I was able to compete in all five alpine events at the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver, BC finishing with a sixth place and two eighth place finishes. I am going to return to my pre med studies at Harvard for the 10-11 race season, but will continue to train as much as I can.
