The ASF’s Warriors in Motion® (WIM) program provides participating injured United States servicemen and women with a basic knowledge and practice of wellness and the importance of lifelong healthy living. Each event includes adaptive sports and nutrition instruction, as well as other healthful practices such as yoga, nutrition, and mindfulness. We view the time that veterans spend together as an essential part of their healing, so we make sure that there are periods of downtime that the participants can use to connect with each other. All Warriors in Motion programs are goal oriented and empower the warrior to take charge of their own fitness and wellness.
If you have never participated in the program before, or if you have had a major change in your medical status, please fill out the following Participant Form in addition to your sign-up form. This helps us understand how to support your needs during these activities and events.
2027 BOB STUBBS WARRIORS IN MOTION WINTER SPORTS WEEKEND
Every winter, the ASF and Wounded Warrior Project® bring in wounded veterans from around the country and their guests for the Bob Stubbs Warriors in Motion Winter Sports Weekend. This year’s event will take place February 4-7.
Whether they have skied or snowboarded before or this is their first time, the veterans hit the slopes for a wonderful weekend full of celebration, gratitude, and fun!
Wounded Warrior Project® takes care of the recruitment for this event. If you’re interested in participating in the 2027 Bob Stubbs Warriors in Motion Winter Sports Weekend, please reach out to your regional WWP Office to learn more.
SUMMER 2027
Every summer we have multiple 3-day WIM events in which veterans can bike, kayak, and exercise in the fresh mountain air.
Looking to join our Warriors in Motion program next summer? Fill out this quick form and we will reach out to you when we have our programming schedule finalized in March.
Summer Activities
Road Cycling
Our Road cycling trips will work your cardiovascular endurance as we pedal up and down the high hills of the Catskill Mountains. There are also plenty of flat rail trails in the area for more beginner-friendly trips. We have a fleet of battery power-assist standup bicycles, several battery power-assist recumbent tricycles, and even battery power-assist handcycles. Our trips usually consist of a 10-15 mile starter ride on arrival day, a 20-30 mile long ride on the middle day, and a 10-15 mile cruiser on the final day to cool down.
Kayaking/Paddling
Chill out and unwind with us for our flatwater kayaking/paddling trips. Feel free to bring a fishing pole and a positive attitude. These trips are usually more mellow, but we can always change course and hit the waters of the mighty Hudson River if the group is feeling up to it. These trips usually paddle around the smaller mountain lakes on arrival and departure day, while the middle day is typically a trip down the mountain to a larger body of water for the group to explore.
Multi Sport
Looking to dip your toes into a bit of everything? This is the trip for you. At our Multi-Sport event, we change activities each day. This year, we are planning on road cycling, kayaking, and mountain biking throughout the week. We can determine the order of events as a group, or you can put your trust in us to decide which activity goes on which day and we will create a fun challenge for you!
Mountain Biking
Get ready to test yourself with Mountain Biking this summer! Just like with road cycling, we have a fleet of power-assist standup, recumbent, and hand crank mountain bikes so anyone can get out on the trails with us. Mountain Biking is a great test of cardiovascular endurance and mental toughness. You will push your comfort zone on this trip as we pedal over tough obstacles, up and down steep trails, and even hit a few jumps. Day 1 is learning the ins and outs of the bikes and basic mountain biking form and etiquette. Day 2 is traveling to Thatcher State Park to learn technical skills, practice jumps if you’re willing, and to get lots of mileage on trail. Day 3 is always a downhill time trial race on the infamous “Thriller” trail nearby our lodge.
Women’s Retreat
We are excited to bring back our Women’s Retreat after a warm reception by all who attended last year. Led by the ladies of ASF, this event is only for those who identify as Female – no boys allowed! This is another multi-sport event where you will spend some time hiking, road cycling, kayaking, doing yoga, and lots of other fun activities.
Participants to Summer WIM Events are only responsible for their own transportation to the event. The ASF provides everything else. All meals, equipment, instruction, lodging, and any in-event transportation is free of charge to participants.
