ASF in the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon – Phillip Hampton

Summary

Team ASF Runner Phillip Hampton's NYC Marathon QandA

There will be eight runners representing Team ASF in the upcoming 2026 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 1. Will Boelter, Peter Conlan, Noah Cottrell, Phillip Hampton, William Reed and Maeve Riordan all received bibs in the marathon to raise money and awareness for the ASF, while Brian Conneely and Jim McGuire already had bibs for the marathon, but would like to take the opportunity to help the ASF as well!

We caught up with Phillip Hampton to get to know him a little better and learn what inspires him to take part in this incredible journey. Please consider donating to Phillip’s fundraising page by clicking here.

ASF: Running a marathon is no easy feat. What inspires you to participate in the TCS New York City Marathon?

PH: Every year I go out and support the race participants of the NYC Marathon and have supported many friends throughout the years. The city is flooded with such positive energy on marathon day from both participants and spectators. This year I wanted to be on the other side of the fence.

ASF: What went through your mind when you decided to challenge yourself and sign up for the NYC Marathon?

PH: I decided I wanted to run the NYC Marathon after last year’s race and encouragement from some friends. Once the Adaptive Sports Foundation accepted me to the roster and I looked at the daunting training task ahead I thought there was no way I could improve from where I was, but I’ve kept at it and somehow I’ve gotten faster!

ASF: What are some highlights of training for a marathon?

PH: Watching yourself get faster! Another fun one is learning how far everything is from one another in the city and making up your own routes and deciding what you want to run by on any particular day. I also now know where nearly every water fountain is in Central Park.

ASF: If you could run anywhere in the world, where would it be?

PH: I think that doing a long run along the Great Wall of China would be an insane experience. The photos of the landscape surrounding it look gorgeous.

ASF: What movie or TV show do you think you’d be a good character in?

PH: How I Met Your Mother or another sitcom based in NYC. I already think that my friend group would be perfect for a sitcom with the antics we get up to.

ASF: Who will be there supporting you on marathon day?

PH: My lovely girlfriend and a large grouping of friends have told me they are very excited to cheer me on this year. My parents and brothers are also flying in from Oregon to join in the fun! I am extremely lucky to have the support that I do.

ASF: What part of the marathon route are you looking forward to the most?

PH: I am excited for Williamsburg the most. I have heard the energy there is off the charts and I know my legs will still be fresh enough to enjoy it all as I settle into my race pace and prepare for the Queensboro bridge.

ASF: It’s the morning of the marathon – what are you doing?

PH: I am up EARLY double-checking all of my equipment that I packed the night before. Breakfast will be Greek yogurt with granola and a banana before heading to the Staten Island Ferry and getting to the starting line!

ASF: What is your favorite thing to do in the city?

PH: I like to go out to all the different kinds of events in the city. Sports, concerts, comedy shows, broadway, restaurants with great food, museums and the arts. I find myself enjoying a little bit of everything the city has to offer.

ASF: What does running for the Adaptive Sports Foundation mean to you, personally?

PH: Skiing is one of my greatest passions and I truly believe that it is one of the most freeing and positive experiences that one can have. Fundraising and raising awareness for Adaptive Sports Foundation’s mission is an extension of my own where I want everyone to experience the absolute joy that skiing brings people, individually and as a community together.

Good Luck Phillip, and thank you for choosing to run with Team ASF in the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon!
