ASF in the Berlin Marathon: Taylor Urlich

Three runners will be representing and raising money for the Adaptive Sports Foundation by participating in the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon on Sunday, September 29. We had a Q & A with one of our runners, Taylor Urlich, that we would like to share with everyone! Please consider donating to Taylor’s fundraising page by clicking here.

ASF: How old were you when you first started running and what did you like most about it?

TU: I’ve always been an athlete – I grew up playing soccer, competitively skiing and playing lacrosse. I remember trying track in middle school and I ran the mile for our team. I liked the aspect of competing against myself and still like that to this day!

ASF: What inspired you to pursue the Berlin marathon and why did you choose to run for the ASF?

TU: I’m trying to do all six world majors – Berlin will be my fourth. I chose to run for the ASF because I grew up as a competitive freestyle skier and was always inspired sharing the mountain with talented adaptive skiers.

ASF: What’s your go-to running playlist/song?

TU: It depends! On easy runs I listen to Zach Bryan, tempo runs I mix in a lot of Taylor Swift and if I hit a wall in a race I play EDM or remixes, usually John Summit!

ASF: What’s the best meal or snack you like to eat after a long run?

TU: Pizza, 100%

ASF: Do you have a “running buddy?” If so, how do they impact your run?

TU: Probably my boyfriend! He doesn’t run more than a couple miles a week after I roped him into running the London Marathon with me 2 years ago, but you can catch him tagging along on my long runs on roller blades or a blue bike here and there.

ASF: Tell us about your training regimen. What did you do to prepare for the marathon?

TU: I worked with a running coach during the off season which helped me build a solid base. Since starting training, I incorporate an easy run, a speed run and a tempo run once a week and slowly build up my Saturday long runs.

ASF: What are you looking forward to the most on marathon race day?

TU: The crowds!

ASF: If you’ve never been to Berlin, what will you do in your downtime while visiting?

TU:Try all the food I can!

Good Luck Taylor, and thank you for choosing to run with
Team ASF in Berlin!

Be sure to report back on what your favorite food was!
