Five runners will be representing and raising money for the Adaptive Sports Foundation by participating in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3. We had a Q & A with one of our runners, Salina Ferretti, that we would like to share with everyone! Please consider donating to Salina’s fundraising page by clicking here.
ASF: How old were you when you first started running and what did you like most about it?
SF: I started running when I was 55, two years ago training for a 10k. I loved that I never thought I could run that far and there I was. Plus it was so exciting running the Stramilano 10k race in Milan with so many people cheering.
ASF: What inspired you to pursue the New York City marathon and why did you choose to run for the ASF?
SF: Running NYC marathon has always been a dream that seemed impossible to achieve. A good friend, ASF Board Member Billy Lawson, offered us the possibility of running for ASF and I jumped at the opportunity. I love this charity, its field of action and I am very excited about the whole adventure and fundraising.
ASF: What’s your go-to running playlist/song?
SF: My favorite running song is David Bowie’s Space Oddity.
ASF: What’s the best meal or snack you like to eat after a long run?
SF: Spaghetti!
ASF: Do you have a “running buddy?” If so, how do they impact your run?
SF: I love running with friends! Fay is my favorite. We chat non-stop and forget the pain.
ASF: Tell us about your training regimen. What did you do to prepare for the marathon?
SF: It has been a long year of training with several hiccups along the way. These last few months I ran at least four times a week with long runs on the weekends. I start my runs by my parents’ house and then have a chat with them which makes them also part of my training process. I also travel a lot for work, so I have been training in so many different cities discovering so many great new areas!
ASF: What are you looking forward to the most on marathon race day?
SF: I’m super excited about people coming together from all over the world for a peaceful event, the charities, feeling the closeness of the whole community, and the reconnection with such an ancient tradition.
ASF: You’ve been to New York City, what is your favorite thing to do there?
SF: My favorite things to do in NY are walk around Central Park, eat Chinese food in Chinatown and going to museums.
Good Luck Salina, and thank you for choosing to run with
Team ASF in the TCS NYC Marathon!
