Thoughts of an intern…

There are many benefits to my internship at the Adaptive Sorts Foundation. Being in an office environment and learning about all the logistics that go into running the various programs the ASF offers is a great experience. Being a communications major, I have also enjoyed applying my knowledge in a practical way learning how to plan, organize and budget for special events.  Another great advantage of an internship at the ASF is all the time we get to spend outside.  I love the outdoors and working at ASF allows me the opportunity to fish, hike, golf, and kayak in the beautiful terrain that is the Catskills Mountains.

Being able to apply what I have learned in school and spend time outdoors is great but neither of those are the best part of this internship.   The best part is being able to help Wounded Warriors. Getting to meet our veterans and hear some of their stories means a

lot to me.  Being part of creating an environment in which these warriors feel comfortable and have a great time is very fulfilling. Just the other night while sitting by a bon fire one of the warriors said to another that he felt as if he had known everyone for years, but had only just met them the day before. That is the environment ASF strives to achieve for every program; an environment that facilitates fun, healing, and learning.   I am happy to be a part of that team.
