ASF Race Team is WARMED UP for the Snow!

By Russ Funk, ASF Race Team Coordinator

Even though Old Man Winter is still sleeping the Race Team is wide awake. We had a full week of fun activities and great work outs over the holidays.

Sunday, we all got together and started the day off with a great little flick from 1941. “The Art of Skiing with Goofy”. Then we got into some serious stuff with a Warren Miller movie from 2014. It had lots of great extreme skiing and riding from around the world, even a little racing at Beaver Creek.

DSC_0036After lunch we did some stretching before a great kettle bell work out lead by fitness instructor and Coach Kim. She really had everyone working hard. I heard a lot athletes and coaches complaining of some sore muscles the next day. Thanks to Patricia it wasn’t as bad as it might have been because she led us through some great yoga moves to help stretch our tired muscles.

Monday, we had an incredible day outside with Orienteering and DSC_0022Paintball Biathlon. Russ Myer and his team from Capital Region Nordic Alliance set up a couple fun events for the team.

In the morning we went to the golf course, split up into four teams, and participated in a 10 station orienteering course. Teams of coaches and athletes were timed on their ability to read maps, find directions and locate each control station. Every team completed the course with 100% accuracy.

After lunch we went to the driving range for Paintball Biathlon. DSC_0084There were four shooting stations and a short running/walking course. We had a relay and each athlete tested their marksmanship and then their endurance on the running/walking course. I say running/walking course, but I only saw a lot of running. We also have some good marksman.

Tuesday morning we had another workout with Coach Kim. Everyone gave 100%.  Unfortunately we didn’t get to ski and ride this week, however we did have an amazing week of physical conditioning through a variety of activities and a couple movies to keep us thinking about winter. We all are ready to hit the snow in a little better shape.  Click here to see more photos.
