In April, Hudson, NY business Iron Horse Cigar Depot joined the family of companies and donors providing support for Warriors in Motion® programming. Owner Roy Brown and his wife, Optometrist Nicolette Sacco-Brown, are both veterans of the armed forces and feel a strong connection to the injured men and women who participate in the ASF’s Warriors in Motion events. Iron Horse Cigar Depot holds monthly events such as steak dinners, golf outings, a Hudson River cruise and special cigar events during which members donate to support local non-profits. Proceeds from their 2017 summer events will go toward ASF Warriors in Motion programs and they’ve set a goal of raising $10,000 for WIM programs.
Iron Horse held a very successful Steak and Stogies event in April at the Quarry Steak House in Coxsackie, NY. Proceeds from a successful raffle and 50/50 guaranteed a good start to their fundraising efforts.
In May, Iron Horse Cigar Depot hosted a golf outing at the Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie, NY. Held on one of the few sunny days we had last month, ASF staff member Kim Seevers, along with veterans Dave Nichols and Bobby Campagnone, joined the outing along with 50 golfers. All three spoke briefly at the dinner following the event. Dave Nichols even picked up the prize for best putter.
This generous group is well on their way of reaching their $10,000 goal. The first two events raised $5,100. Thank you to Roy Brown and Nicky Sacco-Brown for offering the support of the Iron Horse Cigar Depot to assist injured servicemen and women living in NY and the surrounding area on their personal paths to wellness.
The ASF’s Warriors in Motion (WIM) program provides participating injured United States servicemen and women with a basic knowledge and practice of wellness and the importance of lifelong healthful living. Each event includes adaptive sports and nutrition instruction as well as other healthful practices such as yoga, and stress reduction techniques. Over the course of the event, there is also time for the participants to connect with each other. We view the time that veterans spend together as an essential part of their healing. All Warriors in Motion programs are goal oriented and empower warrior, to take charge of their own fitness and wellness.
